A BIG Fortnite update is releasing today, and that means Epic Games will be shutting down Fortnite servers on all platforms for scheduled maintenance and downtime

UPDATE: Fortnite downtime is scheduled for today and will be kicking off very soon, at around 7am GMT, on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Mobile.
A new message from Epic Games explains: “Hello, all! v12.60 is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20. Downtime will begin at 2 AM ET (0600 UTC). Thank you for being among The Agency’s finest.”
Epic Games’ scheduled maintenance is expected to last less than three hours, with patch notes possibly being shared during that time. More details regarding Fortnite update 12.60 can be found below.
ORIGINAL: A new  update has been confirmed for release by Epic Games today, and that means servers will be shutting down during Wednesday, May 20. And while this might be one of the last big patches during Chapter 2 Season 2, fans can probably expect at least one more before the launch of Fortnite Season 3 in June. Epic Games has yet to announce its plans for its next event, so it’s hard to gauge if another will drop before it kicks off.
Today’s Fortnite update is numbered, meaning we can probably expect some new content to be added to the game, as well as a few leaks.
The Doomsday device has been linked with the end of season event, and there’s a good chance we could see some changes made following today’s update.
Fortnite update 12.60 is also expected to include a range of bugfixes and some new outfits for the item shop.
The only downside with today’s update is that it means the game servers will be unavailable for several hours as the development team performs maintenance.
But the good news is that Epic Games has confirmed what time Fortnite downtime will be starting, and they have also given a rough outline for how long it might last.
WHEN ARE FORTNITE SERVERS GOING DOWN?
According to Epic Games, Fortnite servers are scheduled to go offline on Wednesday, May 20, across all platforms.
This means that Battle Royale and Save the World modes will be unplayable for the duration.
Epic estimates downtime could last up to three hours, however, it’s more likely that everything will be completed much sooner.
Recent updates have only taken around an hour or two to deploy but it will all depend on how many fixes are included.
Epic Games has confirmed that Fortnite server downtime and maintenance will begin at 7am, GMT.
This means that gamers in the United States will be unable to play from 2am ET onward, for however long maintenance lasts.
An update will be shared on Twitter when Fortnite servers are going offline, and another will be posted for when they are back online.
While Epic Games have kept its plans for Fortnite Season 3 a secret, they have revealed news regarding the future of the popular Battle Royale game.
It was announced earlier this month that Fortnite will be headed to next-generation consoles, meaning PS5 and Xbox Series X.
The best part of this reveal was the confirmation that Fortnite will be ready to play when both consoles launch later in 2020.
